What is a DXpedition?
An expedition is an excursion, journey, or voyage made for some specific purpose. The term DX is used by amateur radio operators (hams) to describe communication over long distances. Combine these two terms and you have a journey for the purpose of communicating long distances with ham radio: a DXpedition.
The latest 100 Pound DXpedition was in March 2011 to the island of St. Thomas. Details for the trip can be found on the USVI page.
I did a little digging to try to determine what the best options were for a lightweight DXpeditioner. The result was a white paper with an examination of several different antenna models and approaches. Computer modeling along with some analysis are included in the document.
