Deer Isle, ME

Patriots Day 2006 (NA-055)

A DXpedition need not be expensive, difficult to get to, or even outside your own country. Deer Isle, Maine was only a few hour drive away. It is IOTA NA-055 and a very interesting place to visit. As you can see, we were hardly "roughing it". The beautiful house provided a great place to deploy antennas and operate for the special event station K1P celebrating Patriots Day. (The PART of Westford radio club will pick up this tradition beginning in 2008.)
Taking a road trip with your equipment is a great way to practice for a bigger DXpedition. Just the act of packing, considering what to take, and making whatever you bring work will help you prepare for that important DXpedition to some faraway place later.
